Zafu Meditation Cushion – Choosing a suitable meditation or zafu cushion for you depends on some basic criteria like your preferred meditation posture, alignment, your level of flexibility, comfort, and the appearance of the cushion. Each human body is unique, in its form and its posture. Without fair support, it simply succumbs to the shape of the surface on which it rests.
If you do not choose your zafu meditation cushion well for meditation and yoga practice. You may suffer discomfort in the back, legs, hips, spine, shoulders or neck, leading to a misaligned posture and discomfort. To choose your zafu you must also understand about your fillings. The most typical are buckwheat husk, spelled rind, and capoc. The latter is the most traditional, similar to cotton light. But while it has been used for centuries it has lost acceptance compared to shell fillings.
The traditional round zafu meditation cushion with the folds at the sides. Lift the hips and upper body, leaving the legs to rest. You sit on the edge so that the thighs fall gently. This position pushes the hips forward creating a natural curve in the spine. The pose helps you open your chest and lungs to facilitate breathing. The curved shape of this zafu gives support to the fall to your thighs and the cut in between allows the feet to be closer to the body.
