Outdoor seat cushion cover – Sitting on the back deck or porch is more fun when you can rest your head on a pillow. Outdoor pillows, however, are an annoyance when the weather gets wet and they get moist. You may be surprised to know that many durable, beautiful and waterproof fabrics are available. Sew a comfortable outdoor pillow made of one of these fabrics, and before you finish, you will plan how many others you can do for your outdoor furniture.
Place your duck cloth flat face down. Measure two outdoor seat cushion cover, each 17 by 17 inches, and mark with chalk. Cut the squares from the duck cloth and place them on top of each other, front sides facing. Adjust the edges and pin in place. Find a place in the middle of a page to start sewing. Make sure the distance between the needle and the edge of the fabric is 2/1 inch. Remove the pins while sewing.
Place fabric layers under the machine’s presser feet. Start sewing an outdoor seat cushion cover stitch by moving a few stitches forward and a few stitches behind. This back and forth seams will anchor the thread in the fabric. Lift the presser foot and turn the fabric so that you are ready to sew the next side. Lower the presser foot and sew along this side of the pillow. Do the same when you reach each corner. When you reach the last page, stop short six to eight inches from where you started. Iron the pillow along each seam and use scissors to cut a triangle from each corner. This will give the pillow sharper corners.
