Students at Holly Heights School in Millville will be visited by author, illustrator and musician Chris Rumble from Georgia on Friday, March 12. The children will have a treat in store for them when they enter the AVA room only to find Mr. Rumble will be visiting them over the Internet! Using computers, cameras, microphones and the software program Skype, he will be able to interact with the children as if he were right in the room. The program works as a video call where two parties can see and hear each other through the Internet.

Rumble is no stranger to visiting schools or to the students at Holly Heights. He visits school all over the country, travelling from his home in Georgia to spread his message that reading is fun. He visited Holly Heights last year to help celebrate Read Across America Week. He has written three books all featuring his main character, Uncle Stinky. Rumble’s program is filled with stories, drawing and music. He uses the melodies from oldies and changes the words to incorporate reading and books. The school was rocking when he was here in person with his guitar.

This year Holly Heights will attempt a different kind of visit-one over the Internet. Rumble is excited and has visited other schools using Skype. Holly Heights is thrilled to be hosting Rumble using Skype so students and staff can explore this new technology while learning about how much fun reading can be!
